Welcome to St. Pishoy Coptic Orthodox Church in Albuquerque, NM!
About us
Our parish celebrated its first Divine Liturgy in Albuquerque in October 1995 under the pastoral service of Fr. Marcus Mansour. At that time, Fr. Marcus was serving as a priest at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. He continues to serve our community in Albuquerque on select Fridays and Saturdays, offering pastoral care and liturgical services.
Since then, our parish has continued to grow as a welcoming community. We invite all who are interested in the Orthodox Christian faith, or who are seeking a deeper spiritual life in Christ, to visit and join us in worship.
Our Diocese & Church Heritage
We are part of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States, under the pastoral leadership of H.E. Metropolitan Youssef and the guidance of His Grace Bishop Gregory. Through this connection, our parish remains united with the wider Coptic Orthodox Church in faith, worship, and apostolic tradition.
The Coptic Orthodox Church traces its origin to St. Mark the Evangelist, who brought the Christian faith to Egypt in the first century. From that apostolic foundation, the Church has preserved the same Orthodox faith through the centuries, maintaining its sacramental life, liturgical worship, and spiritual teachings handed down from generation to generation.
For those who wish to learn more about the wider Church, its history, and its spiritual life, you may refer to the official diocesan page.
St. Mark the Apostle, founder of the Coptic Church
The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria is traditionally recognized as one of the ancient apostolic sees of Christianity, alongside Jerusalem, Antioch, and Rome. It is often referred to as the See of St. Mark, in honor of its founder and first bishop.
St. Mark the Evangelist, one of the authors of the Holy Gospels and a disciple of Christ’s Apostles, is regarded as the first patriarch of the Coptic Church. From his ministry, the Church in Egypt grew and endured through generations, witnessing to the Christian faith through worship, teaching, and perseverance.
The Coptic Orthodox Church today remains the largest Christian community in Egypt and continues its mission across Africa and the world, preserving the same apostolic faith and liturgical life received from the early Church.
